"Lady in Lace"
Black-eyed Susans are synonymous with summer. Goldfinched amid
tall clumps of bright yellow flowers, Quenn Anne's Lace and Wild
Bergamot signal "Summer is here" in the heartland.
Goldfinches are fittingly nicknamed Wild Canaries or yellow birds
for the male's brilliant color while the female is modestly garbed
in olive-yellow. A patch of tall wildfloweers will lure the birds
down from their wavelike flight, to fill their crops with seeds
before darting off. While walking in my rural neighborhood, this
patch of colorful wildflowers inspired my watercolor painting.
